root906 is a website for nerds based in Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to inform fellow nerds or the less nerdy about computer stuff, share interesting things, offer guides, stuff of that nature. The following are priorities:
- Promoting digital sovereignty. Snubbing Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple, in favor of community driven or less impersonal/greedy alternatives in general.
- Digital literacy. The more you know the harder it is to screw you over.
- Reviews; they can be hardware, software, places, you name it, we’re pretty open.
- Privacy, you should be able to go about your business without being stalked by corporations, warrantless agencies, or creepy neighbors.
- Share cool techy stuff you might be interested in.
- Talk video games and adjacent material, though we’re not a movies/film/general hobby site.
The site is categorized by topic and relative level of nerdiness. There will be content for people who like to tinker deep with computers, and content for visitors who just want stuff to work. We hope you will find it useful, but we are not responsible for any damages or any illegal activities you may choose to participate in, and we do not provide any guarantees of support. However if you have an issue, feel free to reach out.
We accept articles from visitors and comments. Some comments may be promoted to articles themselves if there’s enough meat to them. We are open to criticism and disagreement and radically different opinions via comments but this is not a site to milk politics or behave abusively; we reserve the right to reject content that does not contribute.
This site was founded by John McCabe of mccabe.us on July 2nd, 2025. You can reach out to john@mccabe.us, or meet us on Discord (coming soon), or seek out j0hnboat on Facebook.
Under the root906 project we may come up with more stuff to do, but more on that if and when it happens.
